The Water Colour Society of Ireland is one of the oldest in Europe. Following its foundation in Lismore, Co.Waterford in 1870, it held its
first exhibition in the courthouse there and subsequently every year in Dublin.
The stated objective of the Society is to promote and develop nationally the use and appreciation of watercolour and associated media
among artists, students and the general public.
Our annual exhibition is the highlight of our year and features works by 130 members from Ireland and abroad working in the mediums of
watercolour, gouache and pastels featuring a large variety of subjects – landscapes, seascapes, still life, animal and life studies as well as
botanical and architectural work. Treatments vary from the traditional to the highly contemporary.
The Society is proud and honoured to have been accepted into the European Confederation of Watercolour Societies and has been
exhibiting with the ECWS since 2017. We look forward to hosting the 2023 exhibition in Dublin.
