The Finnish Watercolour Society (FWS) was founded in 1998 and is the 2nd largest art organization in Finland with roughly 600 amateur
and professional members.
According to the articles of the society, exhibitions form the core of the activities, with additional focus on training and publishing of
catalogs. Besides its annual national member exhibition, FWS organizes a few flagship events like “The Great Painting Event”, held annually
on July 10th to celebrate the birthday of Helene Schjerfbeck. The members of the society, as well as the general art-loving public from all
corners of the country, gather to paint in groups of various sizes, mostly on location in parks, streets and beaches - wherever they find
inspiration. Regional exhibitions are also held regularly, as a continuum to the “My Helsinki” -exhibition series, incubated and organized by
FWS.
Year 2024 will mark the 25th operational year for FWS, and a timely celebration in the form of the ECWS Exhibition and Symposium to be
held in Finland. We wish you all a heartfelt welcome to Tampere in September 2024!
